Staff member using seismic interpretation softwareTo facilitate the loading and interpretation of both 2D and 3D seismic data from South Australia, the Department has prepared “workstation-ready” datasets; one per 3D survey and one for most 2D lines. Each dataset consists of the best available processed data volume -  generally a filtered full-offset final migration, if available – with the SEGY trace-headers modified so that the key information needed to load the data is in a consistent set of byte locations that are common to all workstation-ready volumes or lines (as appropriate). When loading, a format needs only to be set once, and subsequent data can be loaded using the same set-up. The trace-headers contain coordinate information in both GDA94 and GDA2020.

3D workstation-ready seismic data can be accessed for free through the SARIG data portal and 2D workstation-ready data is available on a line-by-line basis. In addition, the Department has compiled 2D workstation-ready datasets on a basin-by-basin basis, with the data time-shifted to minimise misties. These are available on request from DEM.petroleum@sa.gov.au. The accordions below can be opened up to obtain further information about line lists and location maps for each dataset.

Basin-by-basin workstation-ready 2D datasets

A workstation-ready dataset containing 217 SEGY files for 160 2D lines is available for the Arckaringa Basin. The age range for these data is from 1969 to 2011 with a cumulative line-length of approximately 4500 km.

A workstation-ready dataset containing 201 SEGY files for 198 2D lines is available for the Arrowie Basin. The age range for these data is from 1966 to 2009 with a cumulative line-length of approximately 4400 km.

Because of the large number of 2D seismic lines acquired over the Cooper Basin, the workstation-ready data for the basin is divided into 4 sub-sets based on the year of acquisition.

1975-2000 workstation dataset

Prior to 2000, a single Joint Venture led by Santos Ltd. held title over the Cooper Basin and adjacent parts of the Eromanga Basin. Santos provided their digital 2D seismic data to the Department as a collection of Geoframe project files and the Department has subsequently converted the seismic data to SEGY format. Over 15,500 data files are available for approximately 5200 lines (total 67,600 line-km) and all lines have been bulk-shifted to minimise mis-ties.

2001-2004 workstation dataset

This workstation-ready dataset consists of 1996 SEGY files for 1036 new and reprocessed 2D lines generated between 2001 and 2004 (14,500 line-km in total). All lines have been bulk-shifted to minimise mis-ties.

2005-2006 workstation datasets

This workstation-ready dataset contains 841 SEGY files for 488 2D lines acquired or reprocessed in 2005 or 2006; a total of 8,300 line-km. All lines have been bulk-shifted to minimise mis-ties.

2007-2012 workstation datasets

This workstation-ready dataset contains 1040 SEGY files for 712 2D lines acquired or reprocessed between 2007 and 2016; a total of 12,700 line-km. All lines have been bulk-shifted to minimise mis-ties.

A workstation-ready dataset containing 632 SEGY files for 527 2D lines is available for the offshore Duntroon Basin. The Department does not hold SEGY data for seismic lines recorded during the 1960’s and 1970’s so the age-range for the SEGY 2D data is from 1983 to 2004, with a total of 17,500 line-km of data. When necessary, the co-ordinates for line-ends (beyond the extent of the full-fold data) were extrapolated from the available navigation data.

A workstation-ready dataset containing 60 SEGY files for 58 2D lines is available for the Murray Basin. The age range of these data is from 1965 to 1987, with a cumulative line-length of approximately 650 km. Where necessary, hard-copy paper sections were scanned to generate SEGY format digital data.

A workstation-ready dataset containing 531 SEGY files for 397 2D lines is available for the South Australian part of the Officer Basin. The age range of this data is from 1962 to 2011, with a cumulative line-length of approximately 12,300 km. Where necessary, hard-copy paper sections were scanned to generate SEGY format digital data. The data has been bulk shifted to minimise misties. Where available, there is both a Final Stack and a Final Migrated version of each line.

A workstation-ready dataset containing 1055 SEGY files for 718 2D lines is available for the onshore South Australian part of the Otway Basin. The seismic data were originally supplied by Origin Energy in a Geoframe project in early 2005. Significant additions, corrections and improvements have been made by the Department, resulting in a dataset now containing at least one version of each seismic line from 1974–2010, with lines bulk-shifted to minimise mis-ties. The cumulative line-length of the dataset is 8,900 km.

A workstation-ready dataset containing 636 SEGY files for 621 2D lines is available for the Pedirka Basin. Where necessary, hard-copy paper sections were scanned to generate SEGY format digital data. Time of First sample (TFS) has been estimated where necessary and added to the SEGY trace-headers. The age range for these data is from 1965 to 1994, with a cumulative line-length of approximately 16,500 km.

A workstation-ready dataset containing 148 SEGY files for 122 2D lines is available for the Stansbury Basin. The age range for these data is from 1982 to 1996 with a cumulative line-length of 3,200 km.
