New petroleum and geothermal core photo database now live.

Photographs of core recovered from petroleum and geothermal wells drilled in South Australia are now accessible in digital format 24/7 via the PEPS South Australia web-based system. You can interact with and download individual photographs, all photographs from a selected well in a zip file, or order the entire core photo database (Fig 1).

Maintained by the Energy Resources Division, PEPS South Australia contains a wide range of technical data including: well header details, core intervals, formation tops, log prints, logs digital and production summary (well modules); and production details, monthly data and charts (production modules). The photos provide a valuable addition.

The new core module contains comprehensive details of 2,450 cored intervals and 13,600 photographs, exceeding 34 gigabytes of data. Best quality images available have been used from sources ranging from old well completion report photos scanned in the 1990s as part of government initiatives, modern digital photos submitted with well completion reports and photos taken by departmental geologists during research projects.

When travel is so restricted, the new module will assist local, national and international researchers to plan their core inspections ahead visiting our South Australia Drill Core Reference Library.
