About the program

SA Housing Trust tenants who move to this plan could save up to $575 (including GST) off their annual electricity bill in the 2025–26 financial year.

This is based on the annual saving estimate for a residential customer with an annual electricity consumption of 4,000 kWh/year on an anytime tariff with rates at a price 25% below the Default Market Offer (DMO).

Actual savings will vary depending on factors including the customer's usage, rates and the DMO. Customers may also wish to consider the impact of eligibility for energy and/or cost of living-related concessions.

The South Australian Government is installing community batteries across the state through a program called emPowering SA.

Because of this, SA Housing Trust tenants can access a special electricity plan from AGL at a discounted rate.

  • The plan is called AGL Community Saver
  • You do not need solar panels
  • You do not need a battery at home
  • You do not need any changes made to your property

If you are eligible and choose to join:

  • You can use electricity the same way you do now
  • The rates are currently 25% less than the standard reference price
  • There is no lock-in contract
  • You can leave the plan if you decide it's not right for you.

You will have to pass AGL's ID and credit checks before joining the plan.

Right now it's for tenants of SA Housing Trust homes that don't have solar or a battery.

The government is currently prioritising access for SA Housing Trust tenants in council areas where a battery is already installed and is operational. These council areas are currently the City of Marion, Campbelltown City Council, and the Port Pirie Regional Council. However places are also available for SA Housing Trust tenants in other areas.
