The Cairn Hill ore bodies occur within deformed Paleoproterozoic iron-rich sediments in the Mount Woods Inlier in the northern Gawler Craton.
Location
55 km south east of Coober Pedy, 16 km from the Stuart Highway and 90 km from the Wirrida Siding on the Tarcoola to Alice Springs railway.

- In January 2015 Cu-River Mining Australia Pty Ltd took over ownership of the Cairn Hill mine.
