SA Power Networks Market Active Solar (MAS) project

The Market Active Solar (MAS) project, led by SA Power Networks (SAPN) in collaboration with AGL and Engie, and funded by ARENA, is a ground-breaking initiative addressing the complex challenges posed by South Australia’s rapid growth in rooftop solar. This trial combines SAPN’s Flexible Exports infrastructure with innovative retailer offers to introduce dynamic Customer Energy Resource (CER) management for solar installations in response to market price signals. MAS is an industry-first solution demonstrating how shared digital infrastructure and collaboration between network operators and retailers can create a platform for dynamic solar curtailment, benefiting customers, retailers, and the grid.

The project improves productivity by reducing wholesale price exposure for retailers, increasing customer benefits from solar, and enabling SAPN to manage excess solar energy being sent back into the grid. The trial is pioneering scalable models of CER integration, further advancing South Australia as a global leader in renewable energy innovation and integration.
