Application: Associated Infrastructure Licence (AIL)
Applicant: ReEnerge Australia Holdings Pty Ltd
Purpose: Construction, operation, maintenance and decommissioning of the Hughes Gap Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The BESS is proposed to have a generating capacity of up to 300MW/1200MWh (megawatt-hour) (four-hour duration).
Location
The project site is located approximately 10 km north of the Crystal Brook township, in the Mid North Region in rural South Australia.

The Environmental Impact Report (EIR) and Statement of Environmental Objectives (SEO) have been submitted by ReEnerge Australia, following stakeholder consultation.
Making a submission
You can submit your views by providing comments directly in the submission form (link provided below), or you can upload your comments to the submission form as a separate document.
Should you make a written submission, that submission becomes a public record. All written submissions will be provided to the applicant for consideration and will be made publicly available on the Hydrogen and Renewable Energy Register (unless deemed irrelevant, offensive, or on any other grounds that the Minister thinks fit) in accordance with the requirements of the HRE Act and regulations.
The delegate of the Minister for Energy and Mining is required to have regard to these submissions in determining whether to grant or refuse the application and, if granted, the terms and conditions on which it should be granted.
Closing date for submissions
Comments on the proposal must be submitted by 5:00 pm, 18 September 2026.
